There is a general distrust among Israelis in the American-mediated peace talks with the Palestinians, according to a joint poll conducted by the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI) and Tel Aviv University, and published Tuesday [Mar. 11].
In a statement, the Islamic Jihad said that three of its members were killed in the Israeli air strike in the southern Gaza Strip. The group said the men were trying to stop Israeli military vehicles that were approaching the area. An Israeli army statement said that the men fired a mortar shell at Israeli troops, and that Israeli air craft responded immediately. Hours earlier, Palestinian security sources said a man died after Israeli soldiers fired at his car. The army had no immediate comment.
