Israel Electric Repairing Gaza Power Grids

September 17, 2014

After Hamas rockets hit the electric power grid placing large swaths of Gaza in darkness, the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) employees of the Beersheva district, as instructed by the political echelon and authorized by the IDF, began working near the border with the Gaza Strip to repair the power grids that were damaged by rockets fired from Gaza.

These workers must be acknowledged for their bravery in working under rocket fire to restore power to their enemies. Repairing the lines requires very meticulous and complex work, under difficult working conditions. IDF soldiers had to guard the IEC employees with tanks and APCs (armored personnel carriers).

IEC provides 120 megawatts of electricity to Gaza on 10 high voltage lines. Most of the power lines were damaged due to rocket fire. IEC continues to work under fire on repairing the damaged lines on the Israeli side. There are also a number of damaged power lines within the Gaza Strip.
