Rabbis Write Open Letter against Kerry’s Peace Plan

April 2, 2014

Secretary Kerry An open letter by a group of Israeli rabbis spoke out against US Secretary of State John Kerry’s efforts to reinvigorate the stalled Israeli–Palestinian peace process. The group calls itself SOS Israel and the Committee to Save the Land and People of Israel. Their open letter, which almost sounds like Israel’s prophets of old, has been widely criticized by other segments of the Jewish world. Some of the quotes from their letter follow:

“Your incessant efforts to expropriate integral parts of our Holy Land and hand them over to Abbas’ terrorist gang amount to a declaration of war against the Creator and Ruler of the universe.

“If Kerry persists in his ‘destructive path,’ he will achieve everlasting disgrace in Jewish history for bringing calamity upon the Jewish people—like Nebuchadnezzar and Titus who destroyed, respectively, the first and second great Temples and the entire Holy City of Jerusalem, and who, by Heavenly punishment, brought eventual disaster upon themselves, too.

“By the power of our Holy Torah, we admonish you to cease immediately all efforts to achieve these disastrous agreements—in order to avoid severe Heavenly punishment for everyone involved.

“Haman, contrived a vicious plot but he and his sons eventually were hung on the very same gallows he had prepared for Mordechai, the Jew…For, concerning those who work against us, the Bible promises, ‘Conspire a plan and it will be frustrated; talk the talk and it will not be fulfilled, for G-d is with us!’”

The Rabbinical Council of America on their website has denounced the letter’s rhetoric and threats, but also acknowledges that “While the people of Israel and Jews around the world may properly possess serious concerns about proposals Secretary Kerry is putting forth, such concerns must only be expressed with civility and on the substance of the issues, not degenerating into personal venom and threats.” While the Rabbinical Council does not question the intentions of the US in pursuing peace, they admit to disagreeing with their views.

The burning question for all people of faith has to be, “What is the will of the Almighty?”  It seems clear from Joel 3 that He will judge the nations according to their treatment of Israel.  “I will also gather all nations, and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I will enter into judgment with them there on account of My people, My heritage Israel; whom they have scattered among the nations; They have divided My land.” (Joel 3:2)

Editor’s Note: We are not willing to advocate any curses of world leaders. We are to pray for our leaders that they will make godly decisions. We urge all Americans to pray for Kerry to have an encounter with the God of Israel. We are concerned about the direction the US State Department has taken in their push for peace and we should intercede for all involved.
