Eliminating the ‘‘World Wide WAIT’’

December 15, 2009

One of the main causes of our slow Internet experience is the Internet itself, says Gadish: “When the Web was first developed, the most challenging sites contained a few graphics, or maybe photos. Today’s sites feature dozens of advanced technologies that are not efficiently handled by those standards—not because the content they produce is too ‘heavy,’ but because of the way the Internet and browsers interact with that content.”

There are hundreds of things going on under the surface of every Web request, and while most of them can be accomplished in milliseconds, some require many more milliseconds to complete. It’s all these interdependencies that often lead to that “dead” time, which delays the browser from loading the page.

The FasterWeb application is installed on the server farm supplying Web pages, where it modifies the content to eliminate some of the processes, changes the order of their execution to prevent dead time, or converts certain processes into others in order to speed things up.
