Second Temple Quarry Uncovered

December 10, 2007

Located 2.25 miles (3.6 kilometers) north of the Temple Mount, the quarry is sited at an elevation 262 feet (80 meters) above it. Archaeologists believe the large stones were quarried and cut at the same site, then transported downhill with the help of animals and stacked one on top of the other to form the walls of the Temple Mount complex.
