The former New York mayor stressed that “America’s commitment to Israel’s security is a permanent feature of our foreign policy.” If the Palestinians wanted a state, they would have to earn it “through sustained good governance, a clear commitment to fighting terrorism, and a willingness to live in peace with Israel.”
Giuliani took a swipe at President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who have become almost obsessive about getting a Palestinian state established before the end of the presidential term. “Too much emphasis” has been put on trying to secure an agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs, he said.
