Thursday, 31 October 2024 | Floyd Mayweather, one of boxing’s all-time greats, met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday during a solidarity visit to Israel and shared a message of support for the Israeli leader and people.
“It was an honor to meet with you today,” Mayweather wrote in an Instagram post. “Your strength and courage are unmatched, and your commitment to protecting the Jewish people and citizens of Israel is truly inspiring. Keep using your voice and never back down.
“This week in Israel has been deeply emotional for me. Visiting injured soldiers, meeting families of fallen heroes and connecting with the people of Israel has been a humbling experience.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine having such a positive impact on society or sitting down with world leaders.
A strong supporter of Israel, Mayweather was among the first to voice solidarity after the October 7 Hamas attack on southern Israeli border towns, contributing several times to the IDF and other groups. Last week, he pledged US $100,000 to the United Hatzalah emergency service to buy bulletproof vests.
Mayweather’s bond with Israel began during a surprise visit in November 2022.
During that trip, he visited the Western Wall, strolled through Jerusalem’s Machane Yehuda Market asking fans for shawarma recommendations and attended the Tel Aviv basketball derby as a guest of friend and former Hapoel Tel Aviv point guard Xavier Munford.
