The seed for the idea was sown 20 years ago when teenage brothers Eldar and Aviad Shnaiderman helped their father with his air conditioner and maintenance business.

“We saw what was happening on the inside of the units, and we thought, wow, it’s so dirty,” Aviad told Israel21c. “This is what we’re breathing?”

Their experience stayed with them and two decades later served as the motivation behind Aura Air, a nifty home and office device hailed as the world’s first all-inclusive indoor air solution system. Aura Air conveniently combines air detection and purification into one compact offering that monitors the air quality in real time to track and detect pollutants, and then filters, purifies and disinfects the air automatically. Aura Air thus fully and intelligently manages the indoor air quality of any home or office.

The device intelligently manages indoor air quality through two steps. First it detects gases and particles like smoke, carbon monoxide and dioxide, dust, liquid petroleum gas and volatile organic compounds like paints, acetones and formaldehyde, Israel21c explains. It also monitors temperature, humidity and outdoor quality to provide a real-time air quality report via an accompanying smartphone app.

Second, Aura Air purifies the air through a four-stage cleanup comprising pre-filter, a carbon and copper-infused “ray” filter, a high efficiency particulate air filter and ultraviolet UVC LEDs. The result? Air free of formaldehyde, viruses, bacteria, fungus, PM 2.5, PM10, volatile organic compounds and even bad odor particles.

Measuring only 11.5 x 11.5 inches (293 x 293 mm), the device is the size of a compact robotic floor cleaner. It hangs discreetly from a wall and can clean approximately 700 square feet (65 square meters).

The first Aura Air devices are expected to hit the market over the next few months and will come with a price tag of US $389.
