“It is important that we hold on to our national principles and values, which were made sacred by the shahid [martyr] leader [Arafat], who sacrificed his life for our cause, for national unity, and for the intifada and resistance,” Barghouti said in a statement issued by his lawyer.
Barghouti also called on the Palestinian people to remain faithful to Arafat by working for a “true democracy that is implemented through institutions and the rule of law,” the London-based Arabic daily Dar Al-Hayat reported.
