Iranian long-range Shihab 3 missile In August, Iran claimed it had successfully test launched a rocket capable of carrying a satellite into outer space, and that by 2010, they would be capable of launching it into orbit. Teheran also announced it had launched a submarine production line to ensure its forces are equipped to maintain security along the vital oil shipping route in the Straits of Hormuz.

In July, Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards announced the successful test firing of a long-range Shihab 3 missile capable of reaching Israel…up to 2,000 kilometers [1,243 miles]. In late August, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Reza Sheikh Attar said that the country had increased the number of operating centrifuges at its uranium enrichment plant to 4,000.
