Israel Chooses National Bird

According to the Israel Nature Preservation Society, which initiated the project, 155,000 people voted for the bird, which beat rivals such as the bulbul and Palestinian sunbird. Leviticus 11:19 groups the hoopoe with birds—such as the eagle, vulture, and pelican—that are “abhorrent, not to be eaten.”
