Israel Wins Big in Special Olympics

February 5, 2008

The World Games convenes every four years and took place in Asia for the first time, with a total of 7,500 athletes. Special Olympics not only provides individuals with intellectual disabilities with the opportunity to participate in athletic competitions, but believes that sport can foster the development of a better and more peaceful world.

Social Services Minister Yitzhak Herzog greeted the returning team, saying, “It is moving to see a group whose most outstanding characteristic is the victory of the spirit over the body, a group of young people that does not give up and is ready for any challenge. You bring much pride and serve as a personal example for all of us.”
