Jesus’s Coffin Claim Sensationalism

June 13, 2007

Cave entrance However, the discovery is nothing new, as the Israel Antiquities Authority has known about it for some 27 years. Amos Kloner, now a professor at the Bar Ilan University, was the archaeologist that oversaw the excavations at the cave in 1980. Kloner has said in no uncertain terms that the cave is not that of Jesus and His family, but rather of a middle-class Jewish family from the first century AD. Kloner also said that he felt the filmmakers were simply looking to stir up some kind of controversy in order to sell their movie.

Cameron and Jacobovici’s film will no doubt score big with conspiracy theorists and others who seek to harm Christianity, but, in the end, their unsubstantiated claims will have little effect on Christians strong in their faith and belief in the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
