LiveHatikva encourages Hebrew/Jewish schools, synagogues, youth groups and movements, friends, families and individuals, young and old, to learn the words and significance of the Israeli anthem, the song of the Jewish people, strengthening their connection with Israel. Participants are encouraged to digitally record their efforts and upload to a joint YouTube channel.
The initiative, founded and funded by Galia Albin, one of Israel's leading businesswomen and philanthropists, is an effort to introduce the content, history, and meaning of the anthem to people around the world. The initiative has become an annual feat, growing in participants every year. Each year, it is hosted by a different global Jewish community: the US in 2009, South America in 2010, Australia in 2011, and South Africa in 2012.
This year, Christians in South Africa showed their excitement at Israel’s 64th anniversary and added their voices of support for Israel through the singing of Hatikva. Bridges for Peace in South Africa and the Southfield Celebration Centre joined forces in hosting Ms. Albin. View LiveHatikva here.
