New Protective Items for Israelis

February 1, 2012

Israel’s Home Front Command developed several items to help civilians living under the threat of rocket fire in addition to safe rooms. The Command recently completed the carefully tested items in the face of conventional threats.

Among the items is a “protected bed” that looks like a regular bed, though it can be transformed into a “protected hut” during emergencies. This is a useful protection alternative in places where there is no available safe room in apartment buildings. Similarly, a special closet was built that can be normally used for storage and, during emergencies, can be used as a safe room. While testing the products nine months ago, they were able to defend their contents fully during a monitored explosion.

The Home Front Command is currently testing a special paint that somewhat prevents the collapse of a wall when hit by a rocket, as well as a special cloth used against collapse shock waves.
