The Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) has said that despite the extent of the damage, it intends to restore it and then cover and protect it until funds are available to present the site to the public. The police have started an investigation to find the culprits of the mindless act. Evidently, the threat of IAA’s gun-packing theft unit was not great enough to deter the villains.
