Amalek, Haman, Sanballat, Antiochus Epiphanes ….all enemies of Israel who were determined to destroy the Jewish people. That same spirit is on the loose again today, clearly seen in the likes of Hizbullah, Hamas, the nuclear threat from Iran…a “neighborhood” filled with nations who vow to see the destruction of Israel. Threats to annihilate the Jewish people are real.
Rabbi Brad Hirschfield wrote in an article, Fasting like Esther, a Biblical Practice We Need Today: “As in Esther’s time, this is a moment when we cannot simply rely on how we usually do things—we need to go beyond our comfort zones, beyond the typical thought, practices, and procedures with which we usually respond to life’s challenges.”
Prayer warriors arise! You have been called for such a time as this. We as Christians can unite on one front: PRAYER. Take your position on the wall, stand in the gap for God’s people as you proclaim the Word of God. Our God is the Mighty One. He will save His people once again.
“Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, and do not be still, O God! For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; and those who hate You have lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, and consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, ‘Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.’” (Ps. 83:1–4)
“Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men; preserve me from violent men, who plan evil things in their hearts; they continually gather together for war. They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; the poison of asps is under their lips. Selah.” (Ps. 140:1–3)
“The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved. Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, than the mighty waves of the sea. Your testimonies are very sure; holiness adorns Your house, O LORD, forever.” (Ps. 93)
“Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come to You. Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble; incline Your ear to me; in the day that I call, answer me speedily.” (Ps. 102:1–2)
“Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the Gentiles [nations], to give thanks to Your holy name, to triumph in Your praise. Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’” (Ps. 106:47–48)
“But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the descendants of Abraham My friend. You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest regions, and said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not cast you away: fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ Behold, all those who were incensed against you shall be ashamed and disgraced; they shall be as nothing, and those who strive with you shall perish.” (Isa. 41:8–11)
