Yeshua (Jesus) warned that the last days would be like the days of Noah (Matt. 24:37). He also said we would see the signs of His return. Could it be that the rising tide of terror traversing the globe is among those signs? Noah was led by God to make preparations before he was confronted with the great flood that wiped out his generation. When that epochal event dawned, Noah and his family were prepared because he had heard from God and followed His instructions.

  • Boycott: A Witch Hunt?
    https://www.bridgesforpeace.com/article/boycott-a-witch-hunt/

“The British lecturers’ union is trying to delegitimize Israel by promoting radical prejudice,” Dr. Jonathan Rynhold of Bar Ilan University and member of the International Advisory Board for Academic Freedom said in May, following a decision by Britain’s University and College Union (UCU) to consider boycotting Israeli academic institutions. According to Rynhold, the decision was reminiscent of “McCarthy’s witch hunt.”

{image_1}Since September 11, 2001, interest in Islam has increased dramatically. People want to better understand this threat that is determined to dominate the world. In our January–February 2007 issue, our commentary The War on Terror: A Religious Mission” briefly highlighted the rivalry between the two major factions within Islam: the Sunnis and the Shi'ites. Most people do not realize the importance of understanding these two groups. We thought this article posted on The Media Line gave an excellent explanation.

  • The Fig – Sweet as Honey:  Honey Baked Figs
    https://www.bridgesforpeace.com/article/the-fig-sweet-as-honey/
    June 12, 2007

{image_1}It is believed by some that the “honey from the rock” was from the fig because the fig tree can grow in rocky places. The natural sweetness of the fruit is attested to in the “parable of the trees,” where the fig tree is asked to be king over all the trees (Judges 9:7–15). The fig’s answer is, “Should I cease my sweetness and my good fruit, and go to sway over trees?” Even the fig is seemingly jealous of its own sweetness.

  • Temple “Trash”–A Treasure Trove
    https://www.bridgesforpeace.com/article/temple-trasha-treasure-trove/

{image_1}On a sunny afternoon in April, a group of Bridges for Peace staff went on an archaeological adventure—into the past. On the undulating, pleasant lower slopes of Mount Scopus, an excavation appears to be underway, but this is no ordinary excavation. Archaeologists and volunteers busily screen, sift, and wash through tons of earth, searching out the smallest potsherds that litter Israel like shells on a seashore and normally get trodden underfoot. What is so special about this earth, and why are professional archaeolo-gists taking the unprecedented, mammoth step of sifting through it when they are all cognizant that its geological context has been completely erased?

  • Preparing for War?
    https://www.bridgesforpeace.com/article/preparing-for-war/

The atmosphere in Israel is drawn as tightly as a violin bow.

{image_1}Everyone from the man on the street to military analysts will tell you that a major conflict is imminent. Since last summer’s war, now called the Second Lebanon War, there has been a tense waiting for the next war to begin. There is a weariness of soul as so many are mourning over lost sons and daughters. The past year has been an intensely difficult year for Israel with 233 soldiers losing their lives in the ongoing battle; 119 of them in the 34-day-long Second Lebanon War. At the same time, there is recognition that Israel must be ready for any and all threats. Those threats are multi-pronged, ranging from Hizbullah in Lebanon, to Ahmadinejad in Iran, to Hamas, Fatah, and Islamic Jihad in Gaza and other Palestinian areas, and Syria to the north. War is in the wind. The question is which direction it will come from first. Lately, Syrian preparations have been escalating.

  • JERUSALEM, My Home
    https://www.bridgesforpeace.com/letter/jerusalem-my-home/
    May 1, 2007

    {image_1}

What do you think of when you hear the word “Jerusalem”? Perhaps you think of the Mount of Olives splitting in two, when Messiah Yeshua (Christ Jesus) returns. “And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west, making a very large valley; half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south” (Zechariah 14:4). Perhaps you think of wars––past and future. Maybe you think of the prophecy in Zechariah (12:3), which says all nations will come up against Jerusalem. “And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.”

  • Feed My Lambs, Feed My Sheep
    https://www.bridgesforpeace.com/compassion/feed-lambs-feed-sheep/

Yeshua (Jesus) said, “I am the good shepherd” (John 10:11a). A shepherd in biblical times spent his life with the sheep, making sure they were fed, protected, and sheltered. In the last recorded conversation between Yeshua and Peter, Yeshua asked Peter three times if he loved Him, and then directed him to “feed My lambs…tend

We started with Purim (Feast of Esther), which usually takes place in March, and ended with Shavuot (Pentecost). In this Teaching Letter, we will complete the year’s cycle of remembrances.

An Israeli company has patented a way to turn oil shale rock into high quality oil and natural gas—a project that may bring jobs to the Negev and low-cost energy to the Jewish state. The Hom Tov (Hebrew for “good heat”) process, the brainchild of A.F.S.K. Hom Tov CEO Yisrael Feldman, involves mixing the bitumen residue left over after refineries produce crude oil together with oil shale rock.
